This viewer turns a coded qualitative dataset into an interactive map of themes, codes, and illustrative quotes. It runs entirely in your browser, so your data stays on your machine.
This is a live demo loaded with a sample dataset. Log in or Sign up to load your own coded data — a CSV exported from your working spreadsheet, or a published Google Sheet — with one row per coded extract and columns for the quote, the participant, and the code, higher-order code or theme it belongs to. Everything runs in your browser, so your data stays on your machine.
In any view, Show connections reveals the relationships between codes and themes as linking branches; hover a branch to read its note.
The search panel on the left searches two ways at once. Keep Codes & themes on to match names, and Quote text on to find an extract from words you remember. Turn either off to narrow the search.
Selecting a theme or code opens its panel on the right, showing the working definition, the participants who contributed, and the quotes. Preferred illustrative quotes are marked and shown first, followed by the rest ordered by how illustrative they are. Click a participant to show only their quotes, and click again to clear.
View mode is for presenting and exploring and leaves the data untouched. Work mode lets you write and refine working definitions, add notes to the links between codes and themes, and mark preferred quotes. In this demo, edits are held in the page for the session only. Present mode shows the same views but trims each theme or code to its top three favourited quotes, for a clean display during a talk.
